What’s New in Simplebim 11?

19.05.2025

Simplebim 11 brings a lot of fixes and usability improvements for existing users. But the real stars of this release are the all-new BIM Dataflows.

BIM dataflows will change the way you manage Simplebim’s automated and centralized BIM data wrangling. Your workflows and pipelines will never be the same.

Simplebim 11 adds the necessary piece to your BIM data lifecycle management: data processing.

This isn’t just an upgrade. It is a revolution.

BIM Dataflows

What are BIM Dataflows?

In the data industry, Dataflows are a well-established method for cleaning, restructuring, enriching, and validating raw data automatically. They are a cornerstone of automated data pipelines.

Simplebim 11 adapts this concept to the unique challenges of BIM data – something that generic data processing tools can’t handle.

The goal is very simple: transform raw BIM data into meaningful, usable information. Automatically.

Benefits

The immediate benefit is clear: Dataflows let you automate repetitive BIM tasks. No more same typing, clicking, or dragging-and-dropping the same steps for every model in every project.

In a larger scale, Dataflows enable centralized, automated, and open BIM data processing. This means less manual work, lower costs, faster results, fewer experts needed – and the greatest value from your BIM data.

How do Dataflows work?

It’s easy. Select a Dataflow pre-set or a set of tools, configure them, and run.

You can start with the ready-made Dataflows included in Simplebim 11, or build your own from scratch.

Start small: clean up a model or create su-bmodels automatically. Or go big: enrich data with quantities, location info, classifications, derived objects, and more.

Simplebim 11 includes an intuitive no-code UI for creating, testing, and running Dataflows. You’ll be a Dataflow wizard in no time.

100+ ways to process data → 1000 ways to use it

Simplebim 11 includes 100+ industry-leading data processing tools, and an ever-growing collection of ready-made Dataflows.

You can mix and match these tools however you like – creating a custom sequence of actions that suits your needs. Imagination is the limit!

With Simplebim, you can serve any data need in the downstream.

New tools and major upgrades

Simplebim 11 brings major improvements to tools like:
• Split Objects,
• Calculate Quantities for Space Surfaces,
• Find Proximity Objects,
• Find Duplicate Objects,
• and many more.

We’ve also added new powerful tools to:
• create groups by connection,
• optimize geometry,
• add coordinate information to objects,
• convert objects,
• and more.

Share Dataflows!

The whole idea of Dataflows is to automate repetitive tasks – and reuse that automation again and again.

Design your Dataflows well, and you can apply them across models, updates, or even entire projects.

The more you use them, the more value they bring.

With Simplebim 11, you can share Dataflows across your organization – or beyond.

Connections are everywhere

Create connections

Building elements are connected. But BIM data doesn’t make these connections visible.

Simplebim 11 makes it easy to create connections between elements – even across different models and disciplines!

You can now define links between:
• nearby objects,
• elements at the same location,
• space surfaces and their parent spaces and elements,
• overlapping objects,
• derived and parent objects,
• and more.

Use connections

Connections create entirely new ways to enrich your BIM data!

Pass messages (copy data) between connected objects – calculate or aggregate properties – group elements based on their relationships.

Combining these technics in your Dataflows, you open up endless possibilities!

New start-up canvas

One streamlined button to import/open your model invites you to start your BIM magic faster.

One new, unified start-up workspace

Simplebim 11 introduces a new default workspace that includes all the essentials, including the powerful new Dataflow palette.

Of course, you can still customize or use the classic workspaces if you prefer.

Trimmer mode

You do no longer have to change the workspace to do object or property trimming! Turn on the Trimmer mode, trim objects and properties, switch back to Normal mode and continue working with cleaner data.

Just toggle between Normal and Trimmer mode anytime.

Streamlined ribbon

We’ve cleaned up the UI. The Home and 3D tabs now make essentials easier to find.

3D modelling has moved from the old Location Editor to a dedicated tab, usable in any workspace: you can now model measure objects and location prisms in any workspace!

The new Dataflow palette has its own ribbon tab. You can use it to access some of the most popular Dataflow pre-sets.

Redesigned 3D palette

Now it’s easier to choose how many 3D viewports you want. This feature is now accessible in the new start-up workspace.

We also redesigned the 3D toolbar for faster and more intuitive use.

More is coming

Simplebim 11 is just the beginning for Dataflows.

In the upcoming service releases, you’ll get even more ready-made Dataflows and new tools to push the boundaries of BIM data processing.

Keep your Simplebim up to date, and stay inspired by what is possible!

Final thoughts

We at Datacubist are very excited about Simplebim 11. We hope you enjoy using it and find the Dataflows both powerful and inspiring.

We’d love to hear your thoughts: what you like, what you’d improve – and what kind of BIM Dataflows you’re creating!

This is just the beginning for BIM Dataflows. More is coming: new pre-sets, more tools, advanced Dataflow development tools, and Simplebim Cloud integration are on the horizon. Stay tuned!

Applying Data Science to BIM: a Simplebim FAQ

It’s no secret that the construction industry has been slow to embrace digitalisation and in particular, BIM.   Whilst there are many reasons for this, the quality of BIM data is a significant one.  That’s why we created Simplebim 15 years ago, to apply the principles of data science to BIM...
